Mapping the Media in the Americas is a collaboration between the Carter Center, the University of Calgary, and Focal, and represents an effort to reduce corruption in elections throughout the Western Hemisphere. Very slick interactive election returns, although I have two items in my wish list:

1. Its odd that there's an option to display the webpages in English or in Spanish, but when clicking on the country of interest, this option disappears...so clicking on Peru calls up the map with all of the layers labeled in Spanish. Incidentally, clicking on Canada displays all information in English, despite the University of Calgary's involvement with the project. Is this a reflection of Prairie Province's relative conservatism and resentment towards placating the French Québécois or simply an oversight? Hmmm....

2. I wish the elections were a bit more up to date. I'd love to see how the recent election in Bolivia shook out.

I suppose its still too early to see Haiti (which voted yesterday), and I look forward to seeing how other countries such as Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil vote. I've always had an interest in how politics interact on a continental basis and I've often wondered how much influence there is across boundaries...I also wonder if the United States will be included in future versions (and how the fraud and influence would be represented)?

Apparently, it was initially set up by typing in "Germans are known for *" eliciting a fun set of stereotypes about Germans...(that's cool: I can mitigate this statement by saying I'm of German descent. That disclaimer absolves me of all sin related to putting down Germans.)

Here's my take:

Ohio is known for...
...its white-tail deer.
...industries.
...abundant plant life and striking geologic formations.
...its college basketball and football teams.
...more than its buckeye trees.

and my favorite:

...its diversity and its everlasting beauty. [this coming from the true experts of everlasting beauty!]

Make me wonder aloud if anyone reads this blog or if I'm linked anywhere...if the above doesn't garner attention, perhaps this will...

I love how seriously these people take themselves. Manual overrides, remote controls, high performance system, 360-degree views...if you didn't know the product ahead of time, you'd think they were selling a Hummer H3.

The features section is the bomb, but the very thought that they conveniently included a "Download" section left me ROFLMAO.

When I finally do buy that house, I think I'll be looking at the more basic models...
